Dr Who - The Official Thread
-
19 June 2007 10:33
For all Dr Who fans on AVMT: this topic is for discussing the series past and present. Was always into Dr Who as a kid and still enjoy it now. Possible spoiler: This week's installment re-introduced The Master. His last appearnance was in the film episode with Paul McGann in 1996. However they made reference in this film that The Master had had all his regenerations and was a power that merely 'inhabitted' people (in that film the character played by Eric Roberts). However now they've brought him back as an old guy who didn't realise he was The Master, who then regenerated to who'll be the character in next week's episode. Can any Dr Who fans explain his please?

Do you know what? I must be one of the few people on the planet who has never seen a Dr. Who Episode. Unbelievable I know. Even as a kid I never watched one. Not sure why...

Well James I have asked a few fans for you and had various responses : Timelords can regenerate 10 times I think, or it might be 8 but it was a long time ago they said this and I'm old. In the film you refer to, I suspect that they thought there would b no more Dr Who's so admitted the Master had run out. But assuming it was 10, this incarnation of the Doctor would be the 10th, and now that it's making stacks of cash for the BBC, the rule has been fudged aka forgotten. The less cynical, but slightly more far fetched (and therefore more likely to be used) is that Master has ran out of regens, but used the TARDIS to perform one more. The TARDIS is obviously more powerful in these new series (except where the Titanic is concerned). As to the Master coming back, you'll notice that someone picked up the ring at the end of the episode and this was the old way the Master inhabited people. So it looks like he can still inhabit people. :o) They have rewritten the history of Doctor Who slightly, revamping it for a slightly more mature viewer. So discount whatever that dire one off short film said, cos tbh it was pretty poor.
Poetic License - or as they say "Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." So take your pick

Thanks mate - they used to say Timelords had 12 regens. So like the guys above say they have either ignorred this or the TARDIS allowed him to regenerate That film was quite good though IMO

I'm buying alot of older and newer episodes on DVD ATM and loving them I must say the continual gay/bisexual references with Capt Jack are annoying. Sure I get they're point, but there's no need for him to make any of the references, even to the females.

I thought it was good, maybe an episode more for younger viewers but still good. The end was good, I wont say what it was incase people havent seen it yet! I think this series has some aliens from the past, short with little heads but I dont know what theyre called. At some point rose, martha, and donna are together!

Yes it wasn't bad. The alien story was a bit childish, but the re-introduction of Donna was great and I found some bits v funny Wish there were more Dr Who geeks on AVMT so I can geek chat I'm a member of drwhoforums.com but the guys there are well above me on the Dr Who knowledge level

They are warriors and dangerous.

Yes those guys, couldn't remember what they were called. I know they was in the old series but I dont think theyv'e been as interesting as other aliens. I liked 4.5 though, along with the joke in the gas masks and when Donna looked at the screen in the tardis and just missed... I wont say who!!!! Next weeks episode looks good!!!

I'm now really into Dr. Who I must confess. Liked the Sontarans episode, the voices made me laugh, not to mention the baked potato heads lol Last weeks episode was good. I'm just trying to remember which movie that scene came out of, the one where the Dr's daughter somersaults her way through the lasers? Was it one of the Resident Evil films? Can't remember.
