Finlux 37" 1080p - £530 - 11 May 2008 16:36
Anyone got one of these??

Went to the shop today to have a look at one, seems very nice, unfortunately it was only running a digital TV signal (!!), so didn't get a chance to see what it was like with a better source. As it was though, it was performing well with what it had.

At the price the spec seems pretty hard to beat - planning on getting one and a XB360 or a PS3 when I get my bonus.

Any ideas on whether I should go for it or aim for a better brand 720p affair? My lounge is prety damn small so we're sat about 8 feet from the screen.

lol - you sound a little sceptical!!

Most of the customer reviews seem to rate the res, and the whole TV in general, and I'd be amazed if they're out and out lying, but yeah, think I'll ask for a proper demo. The set up was a bit weird - about 7 TV's on display, showing a range of digital, DVD, HD DVD and BluRay.

We were a bit rushed today, should of gone yesterday really, so didn't take up much of the sales dudes time, especially as I knew I wouldn't take one away today. I did get him to quickly bring up menu to see what sort of standard the GUI was, and it was pretty damn high - infinitely nicer than my Thompson CRT (lol, can you spot the budget trend in my purchasing...?!?)

There was an 37 inch 1080p LG in Currys for £585 today on offer... looked quite nice, but Jess didn't like the shape as much as the Finlux. Was tempting with their 6 months interest free credit though..

I might pop over again next week, only in huddersfield, and see if I can get a proper demo going, will let you know what it's like

its the old problem with "readers reviews" tho, ive bought it, ive spent £XXX on it, so I AM GOING TO LIKE THIS!, so you get reviews that might kid themselves alittle about what they have, or just havent looked at what else is outhere.

But like I say, for that price, your gonna get what you expect mate.

Ive nothing against it, but get the proper look at it, you know what to look for, and make your mind up.

Altho saying that.....37" at 720p....£569.99

Actually I would preferr the Tosh at £519, comes with the stand too

tho the R87 Sammy's get about the most board recommendationsi hahave seen

Hmm, was sure I'd posted a reply to this..???

Yeah, sammy is nice, very nice and pretty... will have some soul searching before I do commit to this Finlux, and definitely only after a convincing demo

Might be wroth to see if they have any of those models to stack them up against it.

Always remember tho, even when they put sommin decent to play back on it, the colour, brightness, and, well, pretty much every important setting wont be adjusted right and will just be lifted stright out of the box, so you still wont get what the screen can do.

Well, didn't manage to go see it again yet, and don't think I will today. I did however have a big look around Currys... am starting to want a nicer brand

5th generation Samsung 37 is lovely, higher contrast, etc, etc, but knocking on £800. But then the Toshibas got me tempted - THIS ONE - looking around you can get it for about £620.... Love the tiny chassis on it!! Response time is 8ms - thought closer to 5ms was better for gaming?? Much of an issue?

Nah reposnce times (so long as resonable), isnt really an issue, like the Tosh range myself, is that the super slim one!?

Yeah, it was pretty thin - main thing is the tiny edges on it, really emphasises the screen IMO.

This review seems to rate it nicely, just issue of real dark blacks like any LCD (looks to be boat loads of fine tuning options )

Getting sorely tempted... should be able to get it for sub £600 in a month or so I reckon

Blacks and LCD are never gonna happin, but some of the dynamic ratios can be good, some can be terrible and have no contrast what-so-ever, most poeple jsut assume having them "on" is the best thing, but ive seen some screens which I physically cant leave alone till they are made better (much to the annoyence of my friends lol), cause Iknow what can be got out of them.

Ive always preferred the Tosh for it colours tho, very vivd and balenced.

I know what you mean about fiddling - was playing burnout paradise at a mates house and I could hardly make out what was going on 'cos te screen was set up so badly. 5 mins later, jobs a good 'un - still was amazing, but a hell of a lot better!

Well, just bit the bullet and ordered the Toshiba - £585 collected, bargain

Now just have to hope that the fact the money has buggered off from my paypal account, but I've had no order confirmation isn't an issue...!!! I hit "back" at quite an untimely point it would seem

Well, picked it up last night, and so far very impressed

Blacks are best I've seen on an LCD, inbuilt freeview tuner brings out a great picture, and there's more than enough things to twiddle with for my liking!

Initial picture was pretty red, but took moments to sort. Am gonna be buggering about with a calibration disc tomorrow to try and get it spot on (or near enough!).

Don't think I've managed to get an HD signal out of my old Xbox, lol. Hooked it up with component, and it looks very good, but still not sure... It has however confirmed that a next gen console needs shopping for soon

RE: Finlux 37" 1080p - £530 - 07 June 2008 10:10
Right, some fine tuning this morning and it's looking close to spot on

Also, pulled head out of arse, and set Xbox to NTSC so it will run in high res, media centre looks awesome now, and played files are upscaled brilliantly. For some reason it spacks out when put to 1080i - won't play online trailers or stuff over network, but sorts out at 720p.

Only got a few games that have 720p but they look great (shame its not ones I play much...) - and the 480p on the others seems a decent step up anyway.

'box has to be NTSC to activate the 720p/1080i - it was always available in america but we got screwed I guess..!

Will get some pics done, need to charge battery on Jess' camera. Sorted out the network issues - had to change buffer settings on xbox, works fine now. Upscaling is tops
