Need a new DVD player
-
11 January 2008 17:01
Due to this http://www.avmovietalk.co.uk/fb.aspx?m=6926 - I need a new good DVD player I don't mind spending if it will significantly help quality - my last one was very good. Obviously though I like a bargain. It gets heavy usage. Multi-region is a must too Thoughts?

Well the dvd u linked to james has hdmi so if you have hdmi on your screen it would be worth getting imho. Personally I would look to spend around £100 on a dvd player, these cheap players are just that, cheap Personally I wouldn't buy a DVD player that didn't have a Pioneer sticker on it Something like this

YOu can certainly spend more, but right now, the way the market is heading, I dont see th point, and alos, you are buying into the ability to play alot of codecs etc, are you really gonna make that much use of them?. The ironic thing is there about 3 companies make the trays lasers etc etc, kinda like LCDs when it come to what panel is in what make, so really although some will use better components, not all arte £100+ worth of more.

I think long gone are the days of buying reference quality DVD players. You can buy a top of the range DVD player for 1 grand still. The quality will not be noticeable to most users but it's the build quality that costs the money these days. I echo the statements here, you can spend a little or a lot and still get a decent player. The only reason I would not spend more is because I would buy a blu-ray or HD-DVD player. But, that's a whole tin of worms right there to go into that market.

Bit of a problem with that at the moment as a newer version that will be able to play many of the extras that will be on future releases of BR Discs, will only be included on later players, tho only thing which is 100% safe from this as a BR player is the PS3. In honesty I would consider it tho, its cheap, even if it did NOTHING else, it would still be a cheap BR player (most stand alone player are about the 250 mark), nevermind all the gaming sides to it, also, as a stand alone BR player, it is ranked very very highly. Also, seen some of my mates, they are virtually silent, large tho, quite bulky, but a very good option.
