PS3 resolution query - 30 June 2008 14:05
Got a new tv recently.

Anyway for some reason when Im configuring my ps3 it won't let me run 1080p from the menu. I choose to do a manual setup and choose all available options including 1080p but when I try to test the settings the screen goes blank and eventually returns to the menu. It wont let me save the settings until I remove 1080p. The tv is definitely capable of running full hd. The only thing I can think of is that I bought a reasonably cheap hdmi cable. Are there some cables which will support 1080i but not 1080p?

Any other ideas. Bit annoying as more games will undoubtedly come out at the higher resolution soon

Its my understanding they (if any) of the games are true 1080p nativly and, and all of them are upscaled.

Its true SOME cables are fussy over 1080p, but if you have all of the HD resolutions "Enabled", it will just default to teh media, so most of you games will play to 720p, then playing back a BR DVD it should switch to 1080p.

i know about the games not running in full res and being upscaled etc but this is just in the ps3's control panel. i dont actually think my BR's run in 1080p either.

It wont let me save 1080p at all in settings!

The only thing I can think od is trying another HDMI TBH, the screen can obviously display it, tho I have read about screens having compatability problems with the PS3 1080p for whatever reason, could be a firmware thing.

But, I would expect it to be fine with the latest Samsung.

Pain in the ass. I really don't want to buy another HDMI for it to be exactly the same! And all my mates are so far behind the times that the haven't even discovered scart yet! Might give samsung a call and see if there are any known issues. And also mention that the red border on their tellys is a total waste of time and looks nothing like it does on the adverts. You wouldn't even notice it most of the time!

Might be worth it mate, I currently know od one BIG sound manufacturer that refuse to believe they have any compatability problems with their system so dont hold out to much hope lol.

Red Border?

On that link. Take a look around the edges of the telly. Its a really distinct red bored but in reality you can hardly see it!!
